The Paper Chase

I just got finished finalizing all of my end-of-the-year paperwork. For some instructor's, this is a monthly occurrence. Since my club is still in its infancy, I can get away with doing a packet or two a year for headquarters. I had to send the following: gup applications, gup testing forms, instructor certification renewal, club certification renewal, and an order of stuff. I usually send a cover letter with my packets, detailing what HQ can expect to find and providing my contact information in case they need to notify me of any discrepancies.

As I was getting all this in order, it struck me that I'm lucky to be part of a world wide organization. I have access to some really great Master instructors. I've got a boat load of material and training aids available to me through HQ. My student's have similar benefits in that they can travel anywhere there is a studio and train there, simply because they are members as well.

There are many martial arts instructors out there they have had a less positive experience with a governing organization. I count myself as one of the lucky ones to have found a place that helps me to grow as a martial artist and, more importantly, as an instructor of the arts.
